In this remote region where Mongolia, China, and Russia converge, we will explore a stunning expanse of untouched wilderness, crowned by the majestic 14,000-foot peaks of Tavan Bogd National Park.
We explore the region on foot, on horse back and by 4 wheel drive SUVs. Spend a week in the Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. Visiting an eagle hunter family, breathtaking view of Altai Tavan Bogd mountain, pristine Khoton Khurgan lakes, the way of nomad life, horse trek and trekkings are the highlights of this adventure tour. Detailed itinerary
DAY 1- Fly in to Ulgii and stay at hotel
Upon your arrival at Ulgii airport, you will be greeted by our English-speaking guide and driver, who will then transfer you to your hotel. Before dinner, we will take you to visit the local museum, where you will learn about the culture, history, and nature of the region.
Next, we will stop by a local souvenir shop. Depending on the time available, we may also visit Nairamdal (Peace) Peak. This is a pleasant short walk up the stairs to reach the peak, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of Ulgii town from above. Afterward, we will conclude the day with dinner at one of the well-known restaurants in town.


DAY 2- Khoton & Khurgan lake
Today, we will drive to one of the most beautiful places in Western Mongolia—the region of Khoton and Khurgan lakes. Along the way, we will stop at scenic spots to enjoy the views, take breaks, and have lunch. We will traverse some high passes, providing you with the opportunity to capture stunning landscape photos and enjoy breathtaking views from above. After a long but picturesque drive, we will arrive at the Khoton lake area, where we will set up our camp along the lake shore, nestled against a stunning backdrop of snow-capped mountains that mark the border with China.
DAY 3 - Horse riding
Mongolian horses are known for being easy to manage and ride. After a brief riding instruction, we will saddle up our horses and embark on a scenic ride towards the Araltolgoi military base camp, enjoying the beautiful surroundings along the way.
We will have a trail-side packed lunch during our ride, and you are sure to love this experience on these small but sturdy Mongolian horses.
On our return to camp, you will encounter the warmth and hospitality of a nomadic family, giving you the opportunity to witness their unique way of life. Experience the generous spirit that defines their culture and connect with the traditions and stories passed down through generations.
We will spend the night in a tent.


DAY 4 - Baga Turgen Waterfall
We will drive to the stunning valley of Baga Turgen. Along the way to our next camp, we will stop at a captivating historical site. Once we arrive at the Baga Turgen parking area, our crew will set up camp while we embark on a delightful 3 km hike to a waterfall.
As we take in the breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains and lush forests, we will be rewarded by the sight of the waterfall cascading from a height of 15 meters. To cap off the day, we may gather around a campfire at our campsite.
DAY 5 - Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain
Experience the adventure of a lifetime as we depart after a hearty western-style breakfast, journeying to the northern end of the Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. Our drive will take us through breathtaking high passes, across rivers, and to unique locations, including the aptly named "Yak Milk" River, also known as the White River.
As we travel, you'll witness the terrain transforming dramatically almost every hour. By the end of the day, we will arrive at our camping spot for a cozy overnight stay in tents under the stars.


DAY 6 - Altai Tavan Bogd Base camp
We will visit one of the most breathtaking areas of Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, where the wilderness of Mongolia, China, and Russia converges. Our journey begins with a drive to the sacred presidential ovoo, followed by a challenging 7 km round-trip trek to the stunning Potanin ice glacier.
As we traverse the rugged terrain, we will be surrounded by majestic peaks, including Khuiten Peak, the highest in Mongolia at 4,373 meters. After soaking in the incredible views, we will return to our camp for an unforgettable overnight stay under the stars.
DAY 7- Visiting Eagle hunter family way back to Ulgii.
We will drive back to Ulgii, and along our journey, we will visit a nomadic eagle hunter family. Here, you'll have the rare opportunity to learn about the ancient art of eagle hunting from some of the last true eagle hunters in the world. This intimate experience will provide you with valuable insights into their way of life and the challenges they face.
By the afternoon, we will arrive in Ulgii and settle into one of the town's hotels, where you can enjoy a refreshing shower and a comfy bed after our long outdoor trip.


DAY 8-Departure to UB
We will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 AM and transfer you to the airport.

Passport – Tautravel needs your passport copies before you arrive in Mongolia as they are required to get border area patrol permits which we will prepare in advance. We will also need them to book the domestic flights.

Waterproof, well-worn-in walking boots – Good quality, comfortable footwear is essential. Whatever you wear on your feet the most important thing is comfort. It is vital to ensure your boots are well-worn and lightweight. Ankle support and waterproof material is recommended but if you already have something comfortable with good grip on rocks then don’t go rushing out to buy new boots you are better off with your well-worn pair!

Waterproof clothing – A plastic poncho or any kind of waterproof trousers and jackets are recommended. However a poncho will usually be sufficient if it covers your bag, body and most of your legs.

Plastic bags – to keep your belongings and clothes dry (wrap everything in plastic bags).

Small towel and basic personal toiletries – there would be opportunities for cold showers at the campsite so bring travel size shampoo and shower gel if you would like to use it, wet wipes for the rest of the trek is also recommended. You can of course get them in Olgii easily.

Warm cloth for night time – Fleece, long pants, woolen hat, gloves

Walking cloth in layers – e.g. zip off trousers, fleece, T-shirts
Personal medication and basic first aid kit – Bandaids, Imodium, Panadol, rehydration sachets, Just to know, our trek leader would bring first aid kid.

Snacks – Chocolates, chips, biscuits, energy bars. Snacks are provided during the trek but you may like to bring one or two extras just in case.
Torch (flash-light) – (Very Important) and spare batteries.
